Area of Concentration
History, Culture and Social Practices
It is based on the classical assumptions of Social History linked to the most recent developments in historiography and articulates the practices and representations constructed by diverse actors in their collective actions. It considers symbolic elements as references for historical research. Thus, it encompasses research that explores discursive practices expressed in literary, memorialistic and autobiographical narratives objectified in individual or group trajectories.
From this perspective, it develops reflections on the subjectivities that are revealed in the cultural conducts of class, ethnic and racial configurations originating from urban and rural environments, with attention to their specificities. To this extent, the elements that permeate the world of the production of material and cultural life are of interest and become the object of research.
It focuses on traditions, both constructed and invented, taking them as elements that cement social practices and their historical temporalities. In addition to dedicating itself to research into the universe of work and culture and their forms of narrative expression, the area invests in the construction of archives that meet the strategic objectives of the Program, according to its lines of research.
